The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes family, friends, and lots of good food. It’s easy to get caught up in the hullabaloo, but remember to keep up with basic dental habits! Here are some things to remember as you care for your teeth this holiday season.
Brush and Floss: Make sure you brush your teeth for 2 minutes, 2 times a day. Brush the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces of each tooth. Use a long piece of single-filament floss to clean between your teeth, including behind the back molars.
Choose The Right Tools: Use dental hygiene tools and gum that have earned the ADA Seal of Acceptance. Replace toothbrushes every 3-4 months, or sooner if they become contaminated.
Chew Gum: After eating or drinking, your tooth enamel is more sensitive to abrasion. To get your mouth clean after eating, try chewing a piece of sugar-free gum. This will stimulate saliva production and get your teeth ready for brushing.
Sweets: When eating sweets, eat a treat or two, then be done for a while. Drink lots of water to help wash away sugars and acids, and chew gum to help clean away sticky substances after eating.
