Recently, one of our patients returned to our office from an orthodontist we frequently refer to. This patient decided to use an exciting type of braces we wanted to tell the rest of our patients about. These braces are completely invisible, not transparent like clear aligners are because they attach to the back of the teeth. These exciting braces are called lingual braces.
Lingual braces are a lot like traditional braces. They have wires and metal brackets cemented to the teeth, only lingual braces are attached to the back of the teeth, rather than the front of the teeth like traditional braces. Like most orthodontic treatments, they have advantages and disadvantages, as do the other kinds of braces.
Traditional braces have the greatest ability to position teeth. The metal brackets and wires, as well as the easy access to them, make correcting height changes and other unique or needed adjustments possible, especially for severe cases. Clear aligners can correct some alignment issues as well, yet they do not have the ability to correct all smile adjustments the way traditional braces do.
Lingual braces have the same ability as traditional braces to perform most smile adjustments and are more discreet. They offer an advanced correction to many severe alignment issues.
If you’re looking for a great way to align your smile discreetly, lingual braces are an excellent option.
