What is Invisalign?

How does Invisalign work?

Your Invisalign® certified doctor at Three Sixty Dentistry will formulate a unique, digital treatment plan that will map out the desired movements needed over time to achieve the best result possible. Each clear aligner can move teeth 0.25mm at a time. Invisalign® will 3-D print your series of aligners to make these sequential, prescribed movements.

Invisalign® uses proprietary, medical-grade, BPA-free plastic called “SmartTrack®” to applyforces to teeth necessary to move them into alignment. SmartTrak® moves teeth in the fastest, most comfortable, predictable way possible. Similar to the way metal brackets are used in traditional braces, Invisalign® uses tooth-colored attachments to apply extra forces to move tooth roots through the bone and into perfect tooth position.

Common side effects of clear aligners, including Invisalign® are:

1) Discomfort: Though mild in comparison to metal braces, you may experience some mouth irritation from the edges of the aligners or attachments in the beginning of treatment as your mouth adjusts.

2) Speech: Again, in the initial adjustment period you may notice a lisp as your tongue gets used to the thickness of the plastic. Most patients fully adjust within the first week. Remember, you can always remove them for an important call or presentation. Just make sure to put them right back in when you’re done.

3) Cheek Biting: As teeth move and the bite changes, some patients experience cheek biting. Again, this is usually temporary and is alleviated as treatment progresses.

How does Invisalign® compare to other clear aligner companies like Smile Direct?

Other clear aligner companies, like Smile Direct, truly fall short in a number of ways when compared to Invisalign®. Here are the major differences:

1) Proprietary Plastic: Invisalign® has spent, and continues to spend, tens of millions of dollars on research and development, ensuring their materials are the safest and most effective on the market. Their SmartTrack® material is a state-of-the-art, medical grade plastic exclusive to Invisalign®.
